INÊS TAVARES

Inês Tavares is a clinical psychologist and a PhD candidate at the Research Group in Human Sexuality (Sexlab Porto, Portugal). Tavares completed her Master’s Degree in Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Porto in 2016. Her background is in clinical psychology and human sexuality, and her primary research focus is on biopsychosocial predictors of sexual well-being in pregnancy and postpartum. Her research integrates laboratory and survey-based methodologies, as well as individual and dyadic approaches. She works in collaboration with the Maternity Hospital of the University Hospital Center of Porto with the aim of understanding how individuals and couples cope with sexual changes during particularly challenging periods of life such as the transition to parenthood and, ultimately, of informing the development of better treatment options for psychological and relational processes implicated in the sexual well-being of expectant and postpartum couples. Tavares is a member of the European Society of Sexual Medicine (ESSM) and of the International Academy of Sex Research (IASR). She also works as a clinical psychologist in the Sexual Health Consultation of the Social Services of the University of Porto where she sees individuals and couples with a range of sexual health concerns.
